Access and Coverage for All – Enrolling in Health Insurance

Universal health care access and coverage has been CHI’s highest advocacy priority for well over a decade, and is a key element of our mission to create healthier communities. In an effort to see this priority realized, CHI will be actively pursuing opportunities to assist the communities we serve in enrollment for health insurance for 2017.

Open enrollment for health insurance coverage in 2017 will run from November 1, 2016 –January 31, 2017.

Here are a few things that are helpful to know when considering your options for health insurance:

  • Financial help may be available to lower your monthly costs.
  • In-person enrollment help is available – you can call the CHI hotline for assistance: 1-844-286-5545, or visit
  • Health coverage helps protect both your health and your wallet.
  • New plans and new pricing are available to meet your specific needs.
  • There is a monetary fine for not having health coverage.

You might also want to understand what having health insurance will mean for you and your family. Health insurance will not only help you when you are sick, but it will protect your health and help you to prevent disease. Here are some key facts:

  • All insurance plans are required to cover doctor visits, hospitalizations, maternity care, emergency room care, preventative care and prescriptions. Many preventative services are required to be provided without any cost to you.
  • For people with pre-existing conditions, insurance plans cannot deny coverage or charge more.
  • There are no lifetime limits on coverage – an insurance company cannot stop paying for medical treatments because an identified dollar amount has been exceeded.
