Larry P. Schumacher serves as the CEO of CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, TN and the Senior Vice President of Operations for the SE Division of CHI. He rejoined CHI in January 2016 to make a healthy difference in the lives of residents in Tennessee, Arkansas and Eastern Ohio. He will oversee the South Eastern division of CHI and focus on the wellbeing of the communities he serves.
Larry joined CHI from Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) based in Springfield, Illinois where he served as System Chief Operating Officer for eight years. Prior to that, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Via Christi Health Network in Wichita, Kansas and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Mercy Health Network in Des Moines, Iowa.
He started his career in critical care and cardiovascular nursing at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, Indiana University Hospital/Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Research Medical Center in Kansas City, and Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.
Larry has a diploma in nursing from the Burge School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri, a bachelor of science in nursing (cum laude) from Missouri State University, and a master of science in nursing administration from Indiana University. He also has an honorary doctor of science from the Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa.
